8F is not particularly contingent on the events of 7F, so people worried about story spoilers or continuity should be fine with the standalone version.
8F will be integrated to the full Tower after 7F, which is unfortunately not done (obviously) but is getting there. Simply start a New Game and you will be right in front of the 8F entrance.
